The word refurbished does not, by itself, identify a shared commercial-cubicle process or acceptance level. The federal clause cited here defines new, reconditioned, and remanufactured for contracts that use that clause, while EPA groups refurbished and remanufactured office furniture in its recovered-material guidance. A current Herman Miller refurbished warranty illustrates a separate, branded program with its own product, channel, coverage, and condition terms. Reuse and refurbishment can extend an existing product's service life, but neither label guarantees a specific environmental result or destination. EPA advises commercial buildings to assess materials and evaluate waste prevention, reuse, donation, recycling, and locally available services. Keep retained quantities, replacement materials, freight, rejected parts, packaging, and final destinations in the project record if an environmental claim matters. [3]

Write the refurbishment scope component by component

EPA confirms that office furniture, including systems furniture or cubicles, can be refurbished or remanufactured, but its procurement guidance does not prescribe a universal renewal process. The work package must say what happens to each component group and what condition will be accepted. A named manufacturer program may publish a much narrower product scope and its own process or warranty; do not extend that evidence to an unrelated cubicle lot. [2] [7]

Every refurbishment proposal should state

Panel systems are evaluated as systems, not as a pile of visually similar parts. That does not prove that an unidentified, mixed-generation, field-modified, or refurbished lot conforms. Separate manufacturer, seller, installer, and service warranties

Do not assume an original manufacturer's new-product warranty follows used inventory. Steelcase's Americas warranty is stated for the original end-use customer and is non-transferable; Haworth's April 2026 North America warranty defines covered products as new products sold by Haworth or an authorized dealer to the first customer for internal use and ends when that customer no longer solely owns, possesses, controls, and uses the product. A separate Herman Miller refurbished warranty applies only to the branded refurbished products and channels within its stated scope.
